Wellness, Examinations, and vaccinations

Having a pet is a serious commitment, but we can help you with all the questions you may have regarding your pet’s health and well-being. Your pet solely depends on you – feeding, cleaning, playing, socializing, and of course, their health issues.
Our doctors recommend regular annual wellness exams of your pet. With your help, we can help diagnose and address early stages of some diseases, which can be fatal if revealed too late. Our doctors and staff can help you with questions regarding food, supplements, training, obedience tips, etc.

Vaccinations are one of the most important programs. They have helped to reduce diseases within the pet population and are considered the foundation of preventative health care programs.
We, at A Plus Animal Hospital, recommend the following vaccination protocol:

For puppies, our protocol includes:

  1. first set (8 weeks) – Canine Distemper – Adenovirus type 2 – Parainfluenza – Parvovirus at 8 weeks of age (vaccinating your puppy earlier then 8 weeks of age does not help develop a strong immune response and can be compromising for your pet’s immune system)
  2. second set (12 weeks) – Canine Distemper – Adenovirus type 2 – Parainfluenza – Parvovirus – Coronavirus and Bordetella vaccine (kennel cough) at 12 weeks of age
  3. third set (16 weeks) – Canine Distemper – Adenovirus type 2 – Parainfluenza – Parvovirus – Coronavirus, Bordetella (kennel cough), and Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age (after this set, your puppy is protected for a year)

For adult dogs, our protocol includes:

1. first year boosters - Canine Distemper – Adenovirus type 2 – Parainfluenza – Parvovirus – Coronavirus, Bordetella (kennel cough), and Rabies vaccine (after the second rabies vaccine, your dog is protected for 3 years for rabies but needs boosters for Canine Distemper – Adenovirus type 2 – Parainfluenza – Parvovirus – Coronavirus and Bordetella every year)

For kittens, our protocol includes:

  1. first set (8 weeks) – Feline Rhinotracheitis – Calici – Panleukopenia – Chlamydia psittaci vaccine at 8 weeks of age (vaccinating your kitten earlier then 8 weeks of age does not help develop a strong immune response and can be compromising for your pet’s immune system)
  2. second set (12 weeks) – Feline Rhinotracheitis – Calici – Panleukopenia – Chlamydia psittaci and Feline Leukemia vaccine at 12 weeks of age
  3. third set (16 weeks) – Feline Rhinotracheitis – Calici – Panleukopenia – Chlamydia psittaci, Feline Leukemia and Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age (after this set, your kitten is protected for a year)

For adult cats, our protocol includes:

  1. first year boosters – Feline Rhinotracheitis – Calici – Panleukopenia – Chlamydia psittaci, Feline Leukemia and rabies vaccine (after the second rabies vaccine, your cat is protected for 3 years for rabies but needs boosters for Feline Rhinotracheitis – Calici – Panleukopenia – Chlamydia psittaci and Feline Leukemia vaccine every year)
