Happy 2008, Lakeridge
Swim Team
Lakeridge Swimmers and Parents - what an exciting time in
swimming! With the 2008 US Olympic Trials just a few months away
and the Olympics in Beijing drawing near, training and performance
in swimming is reaching new levels all over the world. A
new world record was set just last week in the women's 100 meter
back, when American Natalie Couglin lowered her own record by several
tenths, to go 59.21. 18-year old Katie Hoff broke the oldest American
Record for meters, set in 1988 by American and World
Record Holder and Olympic Gold Medalist Janet Evans. Hoff went
4:02.20 in the 400 meter freestyle, clipping the old record by Here
at Lakeridge, we too are seeing new levels of swimming from our young
athletes. Many swimmers have made the connection between training
and racing. Since Nevada State Championships back in November, there
are Lakeridge swimmers of all ages improving their attendance, workout
times, technique, and of course, best times. Swimmers in Gold, Silver,
and Bronze are strengthening good habits and establishing new ones.
Over the next 6 weeks, Lakeridge Swim Team will be represented at
the local, high school, regional, and national levels of competition,
from California and the Sierras to Orlando, Florida. At this time,
please take a minute to scroll down and mark a few event dates, including
the 18th Annual Awards Banquet.
Winter morning fog
Congratulations, Zone
4 All-Star Qualifiers
On the first weekend in March, Zone 4 and its assembly of
14 & under All-Stars will compete against Zones 1, 2, & 3
of Pacific Swimming in the annual Zone All-Star Meet in Carson City.
With an All-Star Team practice at Lakeridge to kick off the festivities
on Saturday morning, Lakeridge Swimmers who will undoubtedly make
a strong contribution to our Zone include Anna Lise Anderson (8 & under),
Grace Anderson, Jamie Stachofsky, Kyle Curtis, Christopher Miller
(9-10), Lindsey Albright, Rachel Matsumura, Kevin Short, Hunter Whitehead
(11-12), Jacob Anderson, James Chisel, Danielle Ginsburg, Cory Johnson,
Jared Lasko (13-14). On Sunday morning March 2, the meet begins at
10:00 am in Carson. Go Lakeridge Swimmers! Go Zone 4!
Parents of Zone 4 All-Stars and Gold Group
All parents of Zone 4 All-Stars and Gold Swimmers, the Zone
4 All-Star meet is hosted by Zone 4 this year. Each team in the Zone
will be responsible for helping with some aspect of the meet. While
jobs have yet to be assigned, we need your help filling whatever
task Lakeridge is asked to complete. Gold Swimmers, this is a good
opportunity for you to get volunteer hours, helping in a place that
is near and dear to your hearts. Thank you in advance for your help,
everyone.
The meet will go approximately from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.
Getting psyched for relays!
Gold Group Training Sessions at Northwest Pool
Beginning Monday, February 25, Gold Group workouts at the Northwest
Pool will be from 4:15-6:15 pm until the end of the high school season,
when workouts will likely move to Idlewild on those days. Gold Group,
please be mindful of your attendance at Northwest Pool workouts on
Monday and Wednesday for several reasons. First, with regular attendance
at Northwest, where the lanes are wider than they are at Lakeridge
and we have more room to move, group attendance throughout the week
stays balanced. Also, part of your annual team fees go toward our
rental of city pool space and the team pays whether you are
there or not. At such a sketchy time for the City of Reno Pools,
the space at Northwest during the school year and Idlewild during
the spring and summer is important space for Lakeridge Swim Team
to have, as our four lanes at LTC are it for us. As you have seen,
we are growing and we expect this to continue. As the leaders of
our swim team, the Gold Group is asked to go off site only twice
per week, with all other workouts at our home pool. Finally, Gold
Group Swimmers are given optimal workout times at all other afternoon
and Saturday practices, given the level of commitment that our leading
group has traditionally shown. Swimmers, it's important for each
of you to be taking full advantage of your opportunity to become
the best swimmer you can be. The full experience, which includes
swimming 6-9 times per week, going to meets, being part of your team,
giving back to your team, and doing team activities is
what gives swimmers such a solid beginning to life.
And you thought
this was just about Northwest Pool.
Michael, Katie, Joey, and Jamie, a winning relay team!
Reno Meet Date Change to March 29-30
Lakeridge swimmers from all training groups are encouraged
to enter the RENO Spring Fling this year. While this meet takes place
during high school season, even high school swimmers are encouraged
to compete, as short course racing opportunities will become quite
scarce come this spring. This olympic year, many spring meets are
being conducted in long course so that swimmers have plenty of opportunity
to qualify for the US Olympic Trials.
18th Annual Lakeridge Swim Team Awards Banquet
Swimmers, parents, and families of Lakeridge Swim Team,
the 18th Annual Awards Banquet will
be Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Lily's Restaurant at Lakeridge Tennis Club. Whether
you have been on Lakeridge since 1996 or February, 2008, you are invited and
encouraged to come and celebrate swimming. More details to follow.
Pictures Please
Parents, thank you for taking pictures at meets and team events. Capturing
moments along the way is great for remembering and cherishing what we are all
doing together for so many hours at the pool. If anyone has pictures from swimming
events since the last banquet, I would greatly appreciate your willingness to
share those pictures for the Lakeridge Swim Team archives and annual slideshow.
Thanks very much. CD's are best, but a few at a time by email works too.

Holidays are for swimming and snow!
Lakeridge Swim Team Fundraising and a Group Winner!
Swimmers, several months ago, we did our 'somewhat annual'
fundraiser, 'Swim-for-Funds'. In addition to Kevin Short's
record-breaking performance of 248 laps in 90 minutes, we
have a group winner for the most money raised per swimmer.
This year's winner of the 'Do Another Sport for a Day' makes
it a clean sweep for the Silver Group! While each group contributed
beyond expectations, the Silver Group just edged out the
Gold Group. Congratulations, Silver Group. So, what's it
gonna' be? Bowling? Mini-Golf? Laser Tag?
Team Fleece
A new order of fleece jackets and pants has just
arrived and we have all sizes. If you are interested in this
ideal clothing for swimming that also shows what team you
swim for, jackets are $60 and pants are $48.
